Help, and a person to ask.

Wryte has its own Help inside the app (⌘?). It’s short and searchable, and stays open beside your project. The most common questions are answered here too.

Common questions.

How do I start a new book?

Choose File ▸ New and pick a template: Novel, Short Stories, Non-fiction, Thesis or Paper, or Blank. Your first scene is ready to type in. Wryte saves as you type; use File ▸ Save once to name the project and choose where it lives.

How do chapters and scenes work?

In the Contents sidebar, folders are chapters and the documents inside them are scenes. New Text (⌥⌘N) adds a document after the one you’re in, and New Folder (⇧⌥⌘N) adds a chapter. Drag to reorder, or use Document ▸ Move Up, Move Down, Move Out of Folder and Move Into Item Above (⌃⌘ and the arrow keys).

How do I export my book?

Choose File ▸ Export… (⌥⌘E) and start from Submission (a Word document in standard manuscript format), Paperback (a print-ready PDF), Ebook (an EPUB with a cover) or Draft (a PDF to read through). The preview updates as you change the settings. To leave something out, untick it under Contents on the Export sheet, or turn off Include in Book.

How do I send a draft to my editor with tracked changes?

Save a checkpoint (⌘5) when you send a draft. Next time, choose File ▸ Send to Editor… (⇧⌥⌘E) and pick that checkpoint. Wryte makes a Word document with your changes since then marked as tracked changes, and saves a new checkpoint of what you sent.

Where are my backups, and how do I restore one?

Wryte backs up each project automatically while you write. The foot of the sidebar shows when it last did. Choose how often, and where, in Wryte ▸ Settings ▸ Backups, or back up straight away with File ▸ Back Up Now. To get an earlier version back, choose File ▸ Restore from Backup… It opens as a separate copy beside your project, which isn’t changed: copy across what you need, or save the copy and carry on from it.

Can I use Wryte on more than one Mac?

Yes. Save your project in iCloud Drive and it will be on each of your Macs. Close the project on one Mac before you open it on another.

How do I get a checkpoint back?

Open Details (⌥⌘I) and the Checkpoints tab. Click a checkpoint to read it, then choose Restore. Your current text is saved as a checkpoint first, so nothing is lost.

Does Wryte use AI or upload my writing?

No. Wryte has no AI and never uploads, collects or trains on your writing. It only goes online to save web pages you add to Research. You can also hide Apple’s Writing Tools from the editor in Wryte ▸ Settings ▸ Privacy.

Can I use Wryte without a mouse, or with VoiceOver?

Yes. Everything in Wryte works from the keyboard, and with VoiceOver.
