A writing app without AI.

Wryte has no AI in it. It doesn’t write, rewrite or suggest a single word, and nothing you write leaves your Mac unless you put it somewhere yourself.

The promise

  • No AI. Wryte never writes, rewrites or suggests text, and there’s no assistant built in.
  • Nothing uploaded. Your writing is never uploaded, collected or used to train anything.
  • Files you own. Each project is a file on your Mac, or in your own iCloud Drive if you choose to keep it there.
  • No account. There’s nothing to sign up for and nothing to sign in to.
  • No analytics, no tracking. Wryte doesn’t count your clicks or report on how you use it.

The one time Wryte uses the internet.

When you add a web page to your Research folder, Wryte fetches that page to save a copy you can read offline, and to show it to you. That’s all. It doesn’t phone home or send anything about you or your writing.

Hiding Apple’s Writing Tools.

macOS offers Apple’s Writing Tools in every text view, including Wryte’s. Wryte doesn’t use them. If you’d rather not see them either, one switch in Settings removes them from the editor’s menus. Spelling and grammar checks keep working.

Where your files are kept.

A Wryte project is a file, saved wherever you save it. Keep it on your Mac, on a drive, or in iCloud Drive to have it on each of your Macs. If you keep it in iCloud Drive, Apple stores it in your iCloud account, as it does any other file there.

Automatic backups go to iCloud Drive when you use it, to a folder you choose, or otherwise to a folder on your Mac. Checkpoints are kept inside the project file.

The Wryte app

Wryte doesn’t collect any personal information or any of your writing, and doesn’t send us data of any kind. There are no accounts, no analytics and no advertising. The only network requests the app makes are the ones you start, when you save a web page into your Research folder.

Buying Wryte

Wryte is sold through Apple’s Mac App Store. Apple handles the purchase and any personal information it needs under its own privacy policy. We don’t receive your name, email address or payment details from it. If you’ve chosen in your Mac’s settings to share crash data with app developers, Apple may pass us anonymous crash reports, which contain no writing.
